North Stars announce 2018-19 schedule

Jul 12, 2018 | 8:00 AM

We now know when the North Stars will first take the ice under the direction of new Head Coach and General Manager Brayden Klimosko.

The SJHL unveiled the 2018-19 regular season schedule Wednesday night, and the North Stars will kick off their campaign Sept. 14, when the Kindersley Klippers come to the Civic Centre. The game will be the first for Klimosko, and also Kindersley’s bench boss Clayton Jardine.

That night will open up the season for eight teams, but isn’t the first night of the regular season.

The season opens up in Humboldt Sept. 12 when the Broncos will host the Nipawin Hawks in a game that will be broadcast nationally on TSN and CTV at 7:30.

The Stars will also travel to Humboldt  Sept. 22 to take the ice at the Elgar Peterson Arena, which will be Klimosko’s return to Humboldt in which will surely be an emotional game.

The North Stars will get an extended Christmas break this year, which will start Dec. 16 after their game against Nipawin, and they’ll return to action Dec. 28 in Kindersley.

The Stars will conclude their 2018-19 season in Kindersley March 5, the final day of the SJHL regular season.

Caitlyn Gray, Office and Marketing Manager for the club, released a statement to battlefordsNOW shortly after the announcement.

“It’s very exciting to have the league schedule released as it means we are getting that much closer to a new season,” Gray said. “There will be lots of new faces within the organization as well as on the ice for the new season and it’s all pretty exciting!”

Other notable dates to watch out for are the SJHL Showcase in Warman from Sept. 23-26 and the second annual SJHL-MJHL Showcase in Regina from Jan. 13-15.
