SJHL Showcase returns to Warman

Jul 5, 2018 | 10:00 AM

The SJHL recently announced the details of this year’s showcase.

The league announced that it will be returning to Warman from September 23 to 26. The four-day event is for post-secondary schools to watch the players who are hoping to get scholarships from the teams.

Battlefords North Stars Head Coach and General Manager Brayden Klimosko said he’s excited that the event is back in Warman.

“It’s a great facility for the kids to learn and get scouted,” he said. “It’s a great opportunity for our guys to get noticed.”

Klimosko told battlefordsNOW what he’s hoping the players get out of the showcase when September rolls around.

“You’re hoping your players get identified from schools south of the border and hopefully you get a commitment or two,” he said. “At the end of the day, you’re developing hockey players and for them to get to the next level. It’s a great opportunity for them to showcase their skills in front of some scouts that leads them to a commitment or two.”

The Stars and the schools both identify what the players have to work on and what they have to do to progress and get to the next level, he added.

“Every team is different in what their looking for,” Klimosko said. “You lead them in the right direction, finding out what they like on the ice, and then go from there. You build that relationship with the team and the player and go from there.”
