Klimosko settling in to new role with Stars

Jun 25, 2018 | 5:00 PM

First-time head coach and general manager Brayden Klimosko’s first few weeks on the job have been hectic.

Klimosko has done a lot, getting out there and getting set to put the pieces together for his first season as a Junior A head coach with the North Stars. Despite his full plate, the Humboldt native said getting an assistant on his staff wasn’t his first priority.

“I’ve been reaching out to a couple locals to see if they’re interested. It wasn’t first on my to do list,” Klimosko told battlefordsNOW. “First thing was approaching our returning players, as well as guys we were recruiting, just getting to know them more.”

In the coming days, Klimosko said he knows he’ll need start filling up the staff positions around him to get the season going.

“This week is more looking for our staff, including our assistant coach,” he said. “There is a posting going out later today and, hopefully, I won’t have to look too long to find one.”

Moving into his first head coach job has been different at times, Klimosko said, but he’s enjoying the challenge nonetheless.

“Now that you’re the boss it makes it different,” Klimosko said. “Sometimes you don’t see eye to eye with your head coach; it was no different for me. There were times where you wanted to do it your way and you didn’t get to. Here’s your chance to do what you see fit and hopefully it works out.”

Klimosko said it’s good that he’s busy and has his hands all over the franchise. His first few weeks were hectic, but things are beginning to fall into place.

“You really never have enough hours in the day to do what you’re supposed to be doing,” he said. “It’s been good, and to be expected. This time of year is always busy. Being a first-time guy here you’ve got a lot of things to get into place for yourself. Meeting players, fans, staff, its nonstop. I’m slowly trying to get out there. It’s been good and a lot of fun.”
