Action Battlefords donates to Citizens on Patrol Program

Jun 21, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The Battlefords Citizens on Patrol Program recently received a $4,000 installment cheque through the new Action Battlefords initative from the local Chamber of Commerce.

The Citizens on Patrol Program works with the Battlefords detachment of the RCMP to provide volunteers with training, equipment, and support with the mandate to be “neighbors looking out for neighbors.”

“This cheque presentation represents the first step in delivering on one of Action Battlefords three key priorities,” Chamber of Commerce Chair Terry Caldwell said. “We are proud to be contributing to this group of volunteers.”

Citizens on Patrol President Bernie Misselbrook said his group was thankful for the donation.

“We appreciate this donation, which supports our efforts to make a difference in the Battlefords,” Misselbrook said. “If we all work together, great things can happen.”

The Action Battlefords program is a three-pronged approach by the Battlefords Chamber of Commerce to tackle the area’s poor reputation and high crime rates and to provide programming for local youths.

“Our pursuit is a new number one,” Caldwell said. “With just a 30 per cent change in our crime rate, we can achieve the number-one ranking as the safest community in Canada.”
