Cases of hand, foot, and mouth disease have been confirmed in the North Battleford area.

Parents of children attending local daycares and schools have confirmed local cases. Outbreaks of the disease usually happen during the summer and the fall, and are usually not severe.

Darren Erbach, pharmacist at Fisher’s Drug Store, told battlefordsNOW about the signs and symptoms of the disease.

“It’s common in younger children, usually a rash on hands and feet and sometimes sores in the mouth,” Erbach said. “Symptoms include a fever or a sore throat and just a general feeling of not being well. There can be blisters on the tongue … Red rash which is sometimes itchy sometimes not, and they’re just sick and don’t want to eat and a little bit irritable.”
