Local RCMP plan town hall meetings next month

May 28, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The RCMP have announced the dates for three town hall meetings planned for the local Battlefords and surrounding area.

In a statement the organization said town hall events are an opportunity for the detachment “to engage directly with the public around local policing priorities and public safety.”

“Building relationships with those we serve is a key part of what we do. Everyone has a role to play in building stronger, safer communities. We look forward to listening to the public’s ideas, concerns and answering any questions they may have,” the release stated.

When Battlefords RCMP Staff Sgt. Darcy Woolfitt spoke about plans for the upcoming town hall meetings at a North Battleford council meeting a few months ago he said the talks will focus on crime rates as well as historic and recent statistics. The RCMP will also discuss ways residents can better ensure their property is secure and protected to reduce chances of becoming victims of crime.

The Saskatchewan RCMP announced in March that town-hall-style public meetings would be held throughout the 87 detachments in the province that make up ‘F’ Division.

The local meetings will take place Tuesday, June 5 at 7 p.m. at the Alex Dillabough Centre at 421 – 28 St. W. in Battleford; Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at Meota Community Centre at 395 – Third St. E. in Meota and Wednesday, June 6 at 7 p.m. at Denholm Community Hall in Denholm.
