Countdown to radiothon building excitement

May 10, 2018 | 2:02 PM

The generosity of the Battlefords and surrounding area will be on full display tomorrow as the third annual On Air for Health Care Radiothon raises funds for the Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH).

Beginning at 6 a.m. on Friday, 1050 CJNB, Q98 and the Rock 93.3 will simulcast live for 12 hours from the BUH main lobby. The hope is for the Radiothon to raise $217,000 for the “We Don’t Want to Miss A Beat” campaign, which will purchase a new cardiac telemetry system to allow patients with cardiac disease to move freely around the hospital while still being monitored in intensive care.

“I can’t wait to be a part of this event,” said Bryan Flannery of the People’s Breakfast on 93.3 The Rock. “This will be my first experience like this but I’ve heard so much about the generosity of the Battlefords that it will be exciting to see it firsthand.”

BUH Nurse Manager Chris Etcheverry is also looking forward to the radio broadcast.

“This is the first opportunity for the ER and intensive care unit to have a radiothon such as this,” he said. “Every cent that we receive will go towards increasing the number of cardiac telemetry units we have on hand which will in turn increase the amount of services we offer to our patients.”

During the 12-hour live broadcast, groups, businesses and individuals are encouraged to visit the main lobby of the BUH office and present their donations which will be aired live.

Updates will be provided throughout the day on battlefordsNOW.
