City says door-to-door water testing campaign not a city initiative

May 1, 2018 | 12:00 PM

The City of North Battleford is advising residents a business that has been asking people to send in water samples in a door-to-door campaign is not with the city.

The city’s Communications Coordinator Susanne Abe said administrators wanted to avoid any confusion for residents receiving information from the business.

She said the city contacted the business and has confirmed that it is a legitimate firm not a scam.

“We had a few phone calls come in when the little water bottles got distributed by the business,” Abe said in an interview with battlefordsNOW

Some residents received small water-sample bottles with a note in their mailbox offering to have their water tested free of charge.

It “is not a city initiative but rather a business offering this service with the intention to promote their products and services,” Abe said.

Abe added the city does its own water testing to ensure the water is safe to drink.

“We are mandated to test and monitor drinking water on a regular basis to ensure clean and safe drinking water,” she said in a release. “Every week, our Environmental Technologist takes water samples in seven different locations in the city and sends them to a certified laboratory in Saskatoon. In addition, we publish our Annual Drinking Water Quality Reports on our website.”
