North Stars will face Estevan Bruins in semifinals once again

Mar 24, 2018 | 10:26 PM

The quarter-finals of the 2018 playoffs was a mirror image of the quarter-finals in the 2017 playoffs for the Battlefords North Stars: both resulted in sweeps over the Weyburn Red Wings.

Now, they will be hoping for the same in the semifinals, as they are set to take on the Estevan Bruins for the second straight post-season, after sweeping them one year ago.

The North Stars will face Estevan thanks to Humboldt taking out the Melfort Mustangs in five games in the quarter-finals, after their 3-0 win on Saturday night. That means the Broncos now meet the top-ranked Nipawin Hawks in the other semifinal, as the Hawks beat Flin Flon in five games in the quarters.

The season series between the Bruins and North Stars was even, with each team winning three times in six head-to-head matches. Each team won twice in regulation and once in extra time. The Bruins did, however, pick up five of a possible six points in the most recent three head-to-head games in the season series.
