Feb 28, 2018 | 1:00 PM

When the final buzzer sounds tonight at both the Civic Centre in North Battleford and in Hafford, we may well know who will be competing for the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League (SPHL) championship.

Both the Meota Combines and the Battlefords Beaver Blues are both leading their respective SPHL semifinal series and can advance to the league finals with victories tonight.

The Battleford Beaver Blues are on the brink of sweeping the regular season champions, the Hafford Hawks, with a game three win tonight on the road. The Blues, who finished fourth overall in the regular season, lead the best of five series 2-0 with both victories being decided by the same 4-3 score.  The Hawks will have to contend with Blues forwards Brent Salzl, Mike George and Cody Danberg  with each having 17 points in the six playoff games Battlefords has played so far. Game time tonight is 8 p.m.

The Meota Combines have an opportunity to advance at home tonight leading the defending SPHL champion Edam Three Stars 2-1 after a thrilling 4-2 win on Monday night in Edam. Puck drop tonight at the Civic Centre in North Battleford is also at 8 p.m.
