It took four months for the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League’s leading scorer to get recognition as player of the month, but this past Saturday, it happened.

North Stars captain Layne Young was named player of the month for January, when he recorded seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points in 12 games.

The 20-year-old currently has an 18-point lead for top scorer in the SJHL, with 86 points in 45 games.

He was also named player of the week for the first week of February, when he recorded six points in three games. Young is currently on a four-game point streak with 10 points in those four games.
