‘We won’t let this define us’: Silvernagle

Jan 10, 2018 | 11:00 AM

After having a few days to sit back and reflect on Sunday’s final at the Viterra Scotties Tournament of Hearts, in Melfort; Robyn Silvernagle is trying to put the experience into perspective.

The Silvernagle foursome which represents the Twin Rivers Curling club in North Battleford dominated throughout the round robin winning eight straight games after opening the tournament with a loss. She went on to defeat Chantelle Eberle in the semi-final before dropping a heartbreaking 6-5 extra end decision to Sherry Anderson of Saskatoon.

“We started out the week rather slow but after a couple of extra end wins we got on a roll,” she said. “We all played very well and that we are really proud of.”

Silvernagle’s rink consisting of mate Jolene Campbell of Regina, second stone Dayna Demers of Meadow Lake and lead stone Kara Thevenot of Prince Albert held leads of 2-0, 4-2 and 5-3 in the final however veteran Sherry Anderson who will be skipping her fifth team at the Scotties National Championship found a way to come back.

“Team Anderson came out to play and played very well,” Silvernagle added. ”We didn’t play our absolute best and it resulted in us coming up a little short.”

In last year’s tournament in Melville, Silvernagle’s rink rolled into the final and led going into the final end against Penny Barker of Moose Jaw. Barker had the hammer and made an incredible shot to score four points and capture the trophy.

“It’s heartbreaking to lose in the final two years in a row,” she said. “We will learn from it and keep building, growing and fighting to get that championship.”

Silvernagle said her rink will take a little break and then get together and figure out a game plan for next season.

“We won’t let this loss define us,” she added. “What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger so we will be back stronger than ever.”

The Scottie’s National Tournament of Hearts will be played in Penticton B.C. on Jan. 27 to Feb. 4.
