City, town planning for Christmas tree disposal

Dec 29, 2017 | 1:00 PM

Christmas 2017 is officially a wrap.

Residents in the city of North Battleford and the town will have some options to get rid of their live Christmas trees now that the holidays are coming to an end.

The city will be accepting real trees at no cost at the city greenhouse site at 11202 Eighth Ave. from Tuesday, Jan. 2 throughout the month of January from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“You can just bring the tree and drop it off,” Robert Oberlander, the city’s communications coordinator, said.

Once again, the city will not be picking up Christmas trees this year.

Oberlander said residents should let staff know they have a tree to drop off to find out where to leave it.

He said people should make sure they remove all ornaments and decorations when disposing of their trees.

For the town of Battleford, residents can place their live Christmas trees on the curbside by 7 a.m. on Jan. 12 for a special pick up.

They can also drop off their live trees at the North side of the town’s public works department at Fourth Avenue from now until Jan. 19. There is a post with a drop-off sign on it at the location indicating where the trees can be left.

Again, all trees must have all their decorations removed whether they are being picked up or dropped off.

For both the city and the town, residents can dispose of any old wrapping paper they have accumulated over the holidays by putting it into their recycling bins.
