Walmart shows big support for Empty Stocking Fund

Battlefords District Food and Resource Centre is sending out a big thank you to Walmart in North Battleford for its donation of a large shipment of toys for the centre’s Empty Stocking Fund.

Executive director Erin Katerynych said Walmart staff donated over $3,000 worth of toys from funds raised.

“Elves picked up eight shopping carts and a pallet-sized box of toys from the Walmart staff alone,” she said. “The Empty Stocking Fund is currently matching toys to 750 children. These toys are a huge help to us. Many children in the community will be able to share the joy this Christmas.”

“The Food Bank receives support from Walmart every week, and it is because of them that we have a steady supply of dairy and meat to hand out to those who are hungry,” Katerynych added.

She said many other community supporters also donated toys for the Empty Stocking Fund project.

Hampers ready

The Christmas Hampers will be distributed on Sunday, Dec. 24. Those who are registered can pick them up from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  If there are any extra hampers, they will be handed out after 2:30 p.m.
