BUH Foundation selects big winner in annual lottery

Nov 10, 2017 | 1:15 PM

Friday was the lucky day for the individual selected for the big prize in this year’s BUH Foundation’s $100,000 Cash Lottery draw.

The Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation picked the ticket winner for both the $100,000 draw, as well as the 50/50 raffle winner for just over $52,000.

BUH Foundation executive director Claudette McGuire said the names of the winners won’t be announced and posted on the website until they are contacted.

The 23rd annual $100,000 Cash Lottery was a success as the foundation’s largest fundraiser of the year.

“We sold more than last year,” McGuire said. “When we get up into that area that makes me very, very happy.”

There were also many draws for $1,000 and $2,000, as well as one for $10,000 winnings as part of the event.

The foundation sold almost 95 per cent of the 12,500 lottery tickets available for people for purchase.

“We budget to raise close to $300,000,” McGuire said.

The fundraiser this year will help purchase the Centurion Vision System for the cataract program in the operating room at the BUH.

“We had a large number of people who made donations, which was absolutely wonderful,” McGuire added. “To the people in this community and the surrounding communities – I’m very grateful to all of them for all of their philanthropy.”
