City declares 4-H Saskatchewan Club Week

Nov 1, 2017 | 12:00 PM

Monday was a special day for members of the Eagle Hills Multiple 4-H Club as the City of North Battleford declared this week 4-H Saskatchewan Club Week and raised the organization’s flag to celebrate the occasion.

“This is very special for me as I was once in 4-H years ago and learned some very valuable life skills,” Mayor Ryan Bater said. “I am very proud to recognize our local 4-H group.”

For over 100 years, 4-H Saskatchewan has helped youth develop life skills such as communication, citizenship, leadership, interpersonal relations and global awareness.

“Being a part of 4-H has opened so many doors for me,” club member Sam Gabruch said. “I have gained so much confidence in public speaking and made so many friends since joining.”

While the Eagles Hills Multiple 4-H has only been chartered for six years the tradition of 4-H has been around for generations in the Battlefords. The Eagle Hills Multiple 4-H is the last of the 4-H clubs remaining in the North Battleford area and currently boasts 36 members aged six to 21.

The 4-H program also instills youth with pride in workmanship and accomplishments as well as respect for the environment.

Sara Florence said developing relationships with others has been beneficial for her since joining 4-H.

“I have met most of the friends I have today through 4-H,” member Sara Florence added. ”The values and leadership abilities you learn are so valuable and will benefit me as I pursue other interests.”
