The Battlefords Chamber of Commerce brought plenty of smiles to business leaders in the community when it awarded the winners during the 24th annual Battlefords Business of Excellence (BBEX) awards dinner and gala at the Dekker Centre, Tuesday.

This year’s winner for the Business of the Year went to Ilta Grain Inc.

“It’s an honour to be business of the year,” said the firm’s Saskatchewan project manager Steven Ulven. “It is our people who do the service that provides to those in this area of the province. It’s about people and relationships.” The business has been in the community for six years. Ulven said the company has been renewing its facilities and focusing on growth in the past year. He said Ilta Grain has been committed to sending the lentils and peas produced in Saskatchewan around the world.

Among this year’s award winners was North Battleford Hyundai recognized for the Marketing Award.

Controller Quentin Marjoram, who accepted the honour, said to win the award is “unbelievable.” Marjoram said with off-site sales, flyers and other efforts the company does its best to get its name out in the community.

The Award for New Business Venture went to Aaron M. Cadrin Investment and Insurance Solutions Inc.

“It’s an honour to be nominated,” said Aaron Cadrin, the company’s owner and financial advisor. “I put a lot of effort and pride in customer relations.”

The winner for the best Micro Business was Action Realty ASM Ltd.

“It’s incredibly humbling” to be selected, said broker owner Alberta Mak. “There was a lot of really good other nominees in the category, so I feel very privileged to have won this award.” Mak said good customer service makes Action Realty so successful.

These are just some of Tuesday’s award recipients.

Chamber treasurer and BBEX committee co-chair Dallan Oberg said there were many great businesses competing for this year’s Business of Excellence awards.

“Every business in the Battlefords has done so well in helping the community, and being a part of the community, that I am sure it was for the jury a hard decision to make in each category,” he said.
