May 8, 2017 | 12:00 PM

As part of the TD Canadian Children’s Book Week celebration, Lakelands Regional Library will host award-winning author Alan Cumyn at the St. Vital School in North Battleford on Thursday afternoon from 1 to 2 p.m.

According to the community services librarian Colin Evans, the celebration which lasts until May 13 is the most important national event celebrating Canadian authors and literacy.

“Every year, more than 400 readings are given to over 28,000 children, teens and adults across Canada,” Evans said. “We are thrilled to have such a renowned author joining us on Thursday.”

For almost 25 years Cumyn has garnered acclaim and honours including twice being nominated for the prestigious Giller Prize in 2000 for Burridge Unbound and 2006 for The Famished Lover. Last year he received the Writers Trust of Canada Award in the literature for young people category.
