Community to rally behind Veit children

Apr 28, 2017 | 12:41 PM

An outpouring of love and support is expected this weekend for two young brothers as the communities of Wilkie, Unity and the Battlefords rally together.

Zachary and Cole Veit recently suffered a terrible loss after the death of their mother Heidi, so friends and strangers alike are coming together to host a benefit at the Wilkie Arena tomorrow night at 8 p.m.

“This is something we needed to do for the boys,” Danielle Chapman, the organizer of the event said. “I’ve been friends with Cole for many years and seemed like the best way to show them how much we care.”

The event will feature music by the popular band Stereo Playground and according to Chapman there are many raffle items and silent auction items up for bids.

“Words cannot describe my appreciation for the businesses in the area. You would not believe the generosity we have received in putting this benefit together for the boys. It’s just been amazing,” Chapman said.

The benefit is open to the public and will be liquor licenced but any age limit can attend. Admission is a donation at the door and Chapman said that 100 per cent of the proceeds will go to the Veit boys.

“The arena has been donated and the band has donated their talents so every nickel will be going to Cole and Zach,” Chapman said. “Everyone has come together.”

“It’s unreal the amount of support those boys have from the community and I don’t think they realize it yet,” Chapman noted. “But come tomorrow night they sure will.”

Wesley John Veit has been charged with first-degree murder. The allegations against him have not been tested in court.
