Man arrested in Regina theft of vehicle with child inside

Apr 17, 2017 | 9:49 AM

Almost five months later, to the day, police have laid charges in an incident where a vehicle was stolen with a child inside.

Samson Goodwill-Severight, 20, was arrested Saturday on multiple outstanding warrants and for allegedly having meth.

Officers questioned him about several other open files and ended up charging him with the theft of two vehicles – one of which was the vehicle stolen in November.

A mother left her vehicle running outside the Groovy Mama store in the Cathedral area on November 17, with her child in the car seat at the time.

Police believe the thief stole the car, then parked it when he noticed the child inside. Police were called from a nearby payphone by an anonymous person and told where the vehicle could be found.

In all, Goodwill-Severight is facing five charges: two separate incidents of theft of an auto, possession of a stolen vehicle under $5,000, assault with a weapon, and possession of methamphetamines.

Goodwill-Severight is expected to make his first appearance in court on Monday.
