Sask. MLA wage cut takes effect

Apr 6, 2017 | 10:55 AM

The pay cut for Saskatchewan’s MLAs is now official.

The legislation was effective immediately after being passed Wednesday. It sees provincial politicians take a 3.5 per cent reduction in salary.

The wage cut is as a result of the government’s effort to reduce the nearly $1.3 billion deficit and is being applied also to public sector wages.

The government wants across-the-board compensation to be reduced by 3.5 per cent but it can be applied however each bargaining unit sees fit. It could mean wage cuts but could also mean unpaid days off.
