Wall of courage to be unveiled Wednesday at BUH

Mar 24, 2017 | 12:00 PM

Visiting a hospital is never easy. Whether as a patient or a visitor it often can be stressful, intimidating and lonely.

Knowing this first hand Battlefords Union Hospital (BUH) Foundation Executive Director Claudette McGuire decided a change to the ambience would be a huge help to lift the spirits of those visiting the third floor of the hospital.

“Before the chemotherapy unit moved, there was a wall that featured wall art the read Courage Lives Here,” McGuire remembered. “I thought ‘I really like that. Wouldn’t that look nice as a display.’”

It was a chance meeting with renowned photographer Warne Noyce last summer that really got the BUH courage wall rolling for McGuire.

“I told Warne I was looking to create a display that would give inspiration, encouragement and motivation to patients and clients,” McGuire said. “He was so enthusiastic and he and his wife Paula were tremendous in helping make this a reality.”

The Art of Courage wall will be an annual event with a new theme every year and there will be an opportunity for a new sponsor annually as well. This year’s theme is First Nations and is sponsored by BATC.

The wall will be unveiled on the third floor of the BUH on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
