Toe tapping time for CMHA

As the renovations to the new Canadian Mental Health Association Battlefords Branch building nears completion; fundraising continues in many parts of the community to ensure the “Make Room for Mental Health” campaign reaches its $610,000 goal.

One such event takes place on Saturday April 8, as The Gog presents a “House Concert” with popular quartet Backroads providing the entertainment.

“When I purchased the synagogue or “Gog” as folks refer to it, I wanted to do events like this,” said Kelly Waters, owner of The Gog. “The venue has a great atmosphere and I think this event will be a lot of fun.”

Waters knows first-hand how important a facility such as this will be for the community.

“For me personally it’s a really important cause to support,” said Kelly Waters, owner of The Gog. “Being a teacher, I deal with mental health issues daily with children whether its depression or anxiety. I really think it should be treated like your physical health.

Tickets for the “House Concert” are $30 and include appetizers and refreshments. The doors will open at 7 p.m. at The Gog at 1391 105th St.

Laird Brittin of the musical group Backroads reiterated Waters sentiments about the importance of the new CMHA building located in the former Lion’s Den building.

“I know the CMHA provides excellent support to the clients there and I can tell you the old location has absolutely run out of space,” Brittin added. “So when we were approached to perform for the “House Concert” it was an instant – yes.”

Brittin says concert goers can expect a wide variety of music from many different genres including blues, folk, country and some original material as well.

Renovations to the new Mental Health facility are expected to be completed by the end of March and the CMHA is hoping that the new offices will be open to the public by Mental Health Week in May.
