Skating club having a ball in Maidstone

To help with expenses for the upcoming year, the Skating Club is hosting a Ladies Night Masquerade Ball on Saturday, April 1 at the Maidstone Legion Hall.

“It’s going to be a lot of fun,” Lori Fabish of the fundraising committee said in an interview with battlefordsNOW. “It’s a night where ladies can get dressed up, put on a mask and who knows maybe even walk away at the end of the night with some beautiful jewellery.”

The Maidstone Skating Club has been a fixture in the community for over 60 years however recently numbers have begun to decline. The group has to search for new ideas to increase its coffers.

“We have had as many as 50 in our program in past years,” Fabish added. “ However this year we had just 35 hence the reason for more fundraising to offset our expenses.”

Fabish believes that the decline in the  economy is the main reason enrollment in the figure skating club has dwindled in recent years but feels quite confident when the economy rebounds, the program will again grow in numbers.

Besides the chance to win diamonds and jewellery, the Ladies Night Masquerade Ball will also feature a magician and a bachelor auction.

“We have some wonderful gentlemen lined up and we will be auctioning them off during the evening. The lucky bidders will then have the bachelors as their table servers for the evening so that should provide plenty of entertainment itself,” Fabish said.

Tickets for the Ladies Night Masquerade Ball are $50 each and available at the Maidstone Pharmacy.
