Sask. Premier heading to Washington this spring

Premier Brad Wall is taking a trip to Washington in April.

With a new administration and president in charge, Wall believes there are some Saskatchewan interests that need to be discussed and protected.

“Around trade issues, around opportunities for cleaner coal technologies and the steel issue,” Wall explained.

“We want to make sure that pipelines are being built with Canadian steel, preferably Evraz steel,”

Wall will make the trip when congress is back in session in the spring.

Saskatchewan pays for David Wilkins to act as agent for the province in Washington.

He is the former U.S. Ambassador to Canada who now works for a firm that assists the government in highlighting the pressing issues that are important to Saskatchewan, like country of origin labelling and opening doors to American decision-makers.

It isn’t clear at this point how much the trip will cost.
