Rotary and Boys and Girls Club share a Christmas Meal

Dec 20, 2016 | 11:00 AM

It wasn’t the average Christmas party for the Battlefords Rotary Club, but it’s one they probably won’t forget anytime soon.

Instead of a nice meal and cocktails, the club decided to have their staff party with the Boys and Girls Club and cook them a Christmas dinner on Dec. 19.

“We promised our members that it would be chaotic and fun,” said Warren Williams, president of the Battlefords Rotary Club. “There’s no shortage of places that can use food at anytime of the year.”

Williams said that the Boys and Girls Club has always been an organization close to the Rotary, and this is the start of becoming more involved and interactive with the club and kids.

“They boys and girls club has always been something that we believe in and it fits into the six avenues of service which the Rotary believes in,” he said. “Youth is definitely high in our priority.”

After the dinner, kids were invited to decorate cookies with Rotary Club members and then join together to sing a few holiday songs.

Michelle Manibal, executive assistant at the Boys and Girls Club, said the night meant a lot to the kids present.

“Some of these kids don’t get Christmas dinner,” she said. “So this gives them a chance to have Christmas dinner, especially the dinner that we’re having on Wednesday, their families are included as well so they’re able to have Christmas dinner with their families all together.”

The Boys and Girls Club provides recreational, cultural, educational and social support for youth in the community.
