Auditions begin for Dekker Centre showcase

Nov 21, 2016 | 4:00 PM

Auditions for the second year of the Dekker Centre local talent showcase begin this week, with eager Battlefords and area talent jumping at the chance to appear on stage.

The showcase is scheduled for Mar. 4 and 5 at the Dekker Centre with auditions taking place Thursday Nov. 24 at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday Nov. 24 at 9 a.m.

Last year’s theme was entitled “Home…” and different musical acts were woven together to create the showcase. Committee member Karen Ulmer said this year’s theme will also allow for a wide variety of performances

“This year we’ve chosen the theme “Journey” because that’s also an idea that can have so many different interpretations. (Producers) JoAnne (Kasper) and Dianne (Gryba) will work their magic and weave the production again into something interesting,” Ulmer said.

Ulmer said the showcase is important way to introduce people to local talent.

“…last year we had an opera singer and a rap artist and none of us knew either of them so it was just amazing to have that different kind of music brought together in one production,” she said.

Auditions are done by appointment only and booking times can be done by contacting the Dekker Centre. Last year 40 people auditioned and 11 performers were chosen.

“There’s just so much talent in this city, it’s amazing.”
