Both the Saskatchewan Prairie Hockey League (SPHL) and Sask West Hockey League (SWHL) had multiple teams in action over the weekend.

In its second weekend of regular season play, the SPHL saw both blowouts and one-goal affairs.

The Battleford Beaver Blues won on the road in Spiritwood, 7-2 against the Timberwolves, to improve to 2-0 this season.

Edam Three Stars also stayed perfect, after they blew out the Cut Knife Colts 13-3 on Friday. The Colts bounced back on Saturday to edge out the Radisson Wheatkings 6-5 and even their season record at 1-1.

Meanwhile, the Glaslyn North Stars triumphed over the Maymont Settlers 7-6 on Friday and the Shellbrook Silvertips put up double digits on the Meota Combines, winning 10-4. The Hafford Hawks also blew out the Timberwolves on Friday 13-1.

Tristan Deronoski and Mitch Wall each exploded for eight points in Edam’s 13-3 win over Cut Knife, and they are currently the top two scorers in the league.

Over in the SWHL, the Luseland/Dodsland Mallards saw drastic differences in their two weekend games, exploding for 18 goals in an 18-6 win over Eatonia on Friday and then narrowly defeating the Kerrobert Tigers 2-1 on Saturday. The Tigers also lost to the Biggar Nationals 6-3 on Friday.

The Kindersley Red Lions went 1-1 on the weekend, winning 8-7 in a shootout on Saturday over Eatonia and losing 10-4 to the Macklin Mohawks on Sunday evening.

Behn Robertson of the Mallards took over the scoring lead on the hockey thanks to his 11-point effort in the team’s 18-6 win over Eatonia. Robertson has six goals and 12 assists in five games this season. Last season, he finished second in league scoring with 51 points in 17 games.
