Sask. RCMP rollout new initiative to curb drunk driving

Nov 12, 2016 | 11:00 AM

Following the announcement of harsher penalties from the provincial government for drinking and driving, Saskatchewan RCMP are increasing their monitoring of restaurants to limit impaired driving incidents.

Stating in Nov., RCMP Traffic Services and Combined Traffic Services Saskatchewan will increase licence and roadside checks to curb drinking and driving. They’ll also visit restaurant and bar owners to educate them about the dangers and legal ramifications of over-serving.

“Through our joint efforts in conducting liquor permitted establishments checks we want to ensure public safety,” Sergeant Al Hofland with RCMP Traffic Services wrote in a release. “We would like to see all patrons who leave our licenced establishments make the right choice and plan a safe ride home.”

The new initiatives are a joint effort between the Saskatchewan Liquor and Gaming Authority and local fire departments.
