Battlefords’ new charitable group, 100 men who give a sh#t

Nov 2, 2016 | 4:22 PM

The men in the Battlefords aren’t letting the women do all the work.

A new charitable initiative called 100 Men Who Give a Sh#t launched earlier this week. The men were inspired by the 100 Women Who Care group which started in September.

Mark Richardson, one of the organizers, said they saw the success the women had in the community, and wanted to do the same.

“We thought why not try it ourselves, see if we can get a group of men together to do it and were just really impressed with the impact [the women] had,” Richardson said. “It just showed us the power of everyone pooling their donations and putting it together.”

Having their own personal involvement in local charities, Richardson said he and the other organizers know it can be a grind.

“I mean there’s lots of little things you can do like barbecues at the Co-op, or beef on a bun, all kinds of different stuff, but the impact it can have for a group to come together and give only a hundred dollars each is a little more manageable when you think that combines to be whatever it is,” he said.

Groups similar to theirs have popped up all over the country including 100 Men Who Give a Damn in Saskatoon, Halifax, and Kelowna.

After launching and inviting people to join through their Facebook page on Nov. 1, the group in the Battlefords already has roughly 40 members.

Their first meeting is on Nov. 23 at the Rock This Way restaurant at 7 p.m.
