AAA Stars drop road contest in Saskatoon

Oct 28, 2016 | 12:00 PM

The AAA Stars fell 3-1 to the Saskatoon Contacts last night in Saskatoon.

It was the second loss this season to the Contacts, after falling 8-2 in their season opener.

The tale of the tape was the same as it has been all season: too many penalties and too many shots allowed.

Battlefords was shorthanded 10 times and goaltender Lance Alm faced 47 shots. As usual, he kept the team in the game, stopping 44 pucks and keeping the score within reach.

The Stars have been shorthanded a league high 9.4 times per game so far this season – 75 times in eight games. Defenceman Austin King-Cunningham leads the league with 20 minor penalties, while teammate Tye Scherger is fifth with 10 minors.

Forward Adam Beckman had the lone goal for the Stars on Thursday, with Matthew Flodell drawing the assist.

The loss pushes the team’s record to 3-5-0-1, tenth in the 12-team league.
