One Light of Christ subdivision heading to a vote

Oct 3, 2016 | 5:57 PM

One of only two candidates running for a spot on the Light of Christ Catholic School Board says she’ll use her 20 years of experience to improve Catholic education in the school division.

Sandra Morin, an educational assistant, is running against incumbent Gerald Beres for the Unity subdivision spot. She said she urges people to get out and vote in the election.

“The more people that get out to vote, the better,” she said. “Having a good voter turnout is the best option.”

The Unity subdivision is the only board seat out of seven heading for a vote on Oct. 26. The other six members were acclaimed.

Morin said she feels not enough people are running for school board. Although she admires the people who run every term, she said they’ll eventually retire and there needs to be public interest in school board participation.

Her son attends the Catholic school in Unity and she said she has a lot of faith in Catholic education.

“I do believe that they are offering the best education that these kids can get,” she said. “The teachers are well qualified, they absolutely love what they do and I know personally, my standpoint is my son is coming home every day very happy.”

The acclaimed board members are incumbents Glen Gantefoer, Adrienne Welter, Brandy Pyle and Stephanie Merkowsky, and new members Gary Nolin and José Pruden.
