A councillor running for re-election wants to change the perception of North Battleford from a crime ridden city, to a favourable place to live.

Greg Lightfoot has served as a North Battleford councillor for the last four years. He said, if re-elected, he’d like to continue with downtown development but admits crime and safety is city’s biggest issue.

“How can we enhance that? How can we make this community safer?” Lightfoot said. “If we are going to see some changes they’d be in regards to safety in the community. I want North Battleford looked at as a city of choice in the province.”

Lightfoot said council has done a good job putting together a comprehensive safety strategy within the community. He highlighted the Community Safety Officers who have taken duties off the plate of RCMP so they can focus on more serious crimes.

Lightfoot would like the public’s input on what direction they want the city to go.

“We’ve got some challenges ahead of us in regards to infrastructure,” Lightfoot said. “I’d like to see that handled in a responsible and tax efficient way. “

Lightfoot said, as a financial planner he can help keep costs low and maintain a budget. He has been in the industry for 25 years. He owns and operates Hein Financial Group in North Battleford.

Lightfoot has lived in the city for 29 years where he and his wife raised two children, who have both returned to work in North Battleford.

“They have a lot of confidence in this city, and so do I.”
