Battlefords residents can watch a new movie in an old-fashioned way this weekend with the city of North Battleford’s drive-in movie night.

Finding Dory will be screened in the field beside the CUplex Friday night, Sept. 16. This is the first time the city’s hosted a drive-in movie night like this, according to program manager Candace Dustan.

“It’s not something that we have in this community, so it’s nice to bring something that’s old back to the new,” she said. “It’s a free community event and it’s a great opportunity to spend time with your family.”

Dustan said the last permanent drive-in in the Battlefords shut down in roughly 1983. Although the equipment will be temporary and the movie released this year, the idea is the same. People can in front of the movie screen and can listen either through the speakers or by tuning in to a specific radio signal in their cars. Dustan said people are also welcome to bring blankets or lawn chairs and sit outside to watch the movie.
