Just days after lifting the last water restrictions for residents, the City of North Battleford now has all four of its new wells running.

“All four wells at the water treatment plant are operating now. So in total we now have 14 wells at the water treatment plant that are pumping water,” Susanne Abe, communications coordinator with the City of North Battleford said.

All four new wells were dug to add to the groundwater supply following the shutdown of river water intake at the F.E. Holliday Water Treatment. When the last of the water restrictions were lifted on Friday, Sept. 2, only two of the wells were operational. Abe said after testing over the weekend, the remaining two wells are good to go.

“Those test results came back and that the water quality is good and that we can continue pumping water,” she said. “We also have the monitored the water reservoirs and the wells have been able to keep up with the demand.”
