Commericial water restrictions lifted, residents still waiting

Sep 1, 2016 | 7:35 AM

Water restrictions have been lifted in North Battleford, but not as many as originally hoped. Businesses are free to consume, but restrictions on residents still apply.

The restrictions, which originally included laundromats, car washes and other companies, were put in place following the July 21 Husky oil spill on the North Saskatchewan River. The city was forced to shut-off its river water intake and has since relied on its groundwater wells and, more recently, a pipeline carrying extra water from the town of Battleford.

Four new wells have been dug, however, the city said only two of them are hooked up and supplying water.

The city now hopes to lift restrictions on residential watering lawns and flower beds after a few more days.
