Brad Trost enters Conservative leader’s race

Aug 17, 2016 | 10:42 AM

Long-serving Member of Parliament Brad Trost is running for the leadership of the federal Conservative party.

Mike Patton, a spokesperson for Trost’s campaign, confirmed that the 42-year-old MP in the Saskatoon-University riding is indeed running.

Patton said Trost authorized his team to bring his campaign website online and to begin collecting signatures and money for his nomination before going to Mongolia on a family holiday.

Trost is a well-known pro-life supporter and opponent of same-sex marriage. His site bills him as “a genuine, principled conservative – a 100 per cent conservative – who believes that Canadians are concerned about their families and deserve leaders who respect them and who can and speak for them on ALL the important issues of the day.”

Patton said Trost will be back in Saskatchewan to formally kick off his campaign in September.

Trost was first elected to Parliament in 2004.

The Conservative leadership convention will be held May 27, 2017.
