Houle fundraiser a huge success

Hundreds came out for a fundraiser dedicated to the local business owner who became paralyzed during a hockey game earlier this year.

Nearly 800 people attended the benefit dinner and dance for Guy’s Furniture owner Larry Houle on Saturday, Aug. 6. Organizer Peter Frey said the whole night went on without a hitch.

“Everybody seemed to have a really good time,” he said. “(Houle) was really moved by how many people were there. I talked to him the next day, he still couldn’t believe how many people were there and how well it went.”

Frey said they haven’t finalized the total money raised yet and will let the community know how much was raised after telling Houle this week.

Houle was paralyzed when he went head first into the boards playing recreational hockey in March. He’s been recovering in hospital in Saskatoon since, but was able to come to the benefit Saturday night.

Frey said the two biggest highlights of the night were seeing Houle there and the amount of people who came to support him.
