Premier says he’s disappointed in McMorris

Aug 9, 2016 | 6:43 AM

The Premier said he’s disappointed in the behaviour of friend and colleague Don McMorris.

Brad Wall released a statement over the weekend, but on Monday took questions from reporters at the Saskatchewan Legislature.

“To say very, very disappointed really doesn’t quite cover it because of what Don risked when he made that decision in terms of the lives of others and his own,” Wall said. “This was a terrible decision that he made, drinking and driving risks and ruins lives.”

Wall was quick to point out his struggle to find the words as McMorris is also a friend.

“Concerned for him, but, first and foremost, disappointment and frankly gratitude that that there was no injury,” Wall stated.

Wall and McMorris were first elected in 1999, with Wall appointing his friend deputy premier in May 2015. Wall wouldn’t speculate on what role McMorris will play in the in the future.

“I think he is focused on getting some help and being accountable for his actions,” Wall maintained. “What Don avails himself of, in terms of counseling and support, I think that will dictate things down the road.”

The Indian Head MLA was charged with impaired driving and has resigned from cabinet. Five sitting MLAs currently have impaired driving convictions.
