Warning issued after cougar sighting near Meota

Jul 6, 2016 | 2:09 PM

Meota has issued a dangerous animal alert after a cougar was sighted just outside village limits in a field between it and the hamlet of Prince.

The public is warned to be cautious and are instructed not to approach or capture the cougar. Instead they are to evacuate the area and call local authorities.

In the event a cougar is encountered, the Ministry of Environment said residents should make themselves appear large, shout loudly, or throw something to distract the cougar, then back away to a safe distance. It is important to maintain eye contact and not turn and run.
