Saskatoon Councillor wants bridge named after Gordie Howe

Jun 27, 2016 | 7:58 AM

There is already a rink, football field, campground, statue and sports complex in honour of Gordie Howe in Saskatoon, but if Coun. Darren Hill gets his way, there will be one more thing in the city named for Mr. Hockey.

Hill said he plans to put forward a motion during Monday’s council meeting to have Saskatoon’s Circle Drive South Bridge named for the hockey great.

On Friday, Hill posted the idea to his Facebook page asking what people thought of the name change. Over the weekend, the post gained more than 1,500 likes and a vast majority of the 365 comments are in favour.

Hill will need to obtain unanimous consent from all of the other councillors to bring the motion forward at Monday’s meeting because he missed the official deadline to file his motion ahead of time.
