BUH foundation celebrates a successful fundraising year

The Battleford Union Hospital Foundation wrapped up a successful fundraising year. According to Board of Directors Chairperson, Roger Anderson, said events like the annual $100,000 lottery, the Festival of Trees and the Wayne Pruden Memorial Golf Tournament have all helped the hospital raise the money it needs to continue service.

“Each year the generous support purchases the most needed equipment and the 2015 focus was on the BUH’s Laboratory,” he said.

The foundation raised enough money to replace two out of date microphones to help the laboratory process 40,000 average, annual tests. The microphones will assist in the more expedient treatment and an accurate diagnosis of patients.

Over 12,348 tickets were sold during the annnual $100,000 dollar lottery to people all over the province, surpassing their $12,000 goal.

“We are one of the few foundations in Saskatchewan that run their own lottery,” Claudette McGuire, Executive director of the Board said. “We are really pleased that we were able to move that many tickets.”

The proceeds went towards purchasing an automated pill packager – a convenient piece of equipment for patients and hospital staff.

The Bigger Picture Radiothon prompted a series of on-going donations to purchase a new CT scanner.

“The radiothon donations are still coming in and we’re hoping to wrap this up in the next couple weeks,” McGuire said.  “We’ve committed to raising the $600,000 because we know this machine needs to be replaced. The support has really been province-wide.”
