Household garbage in North Battleford halved since 2013

Garbage collected from houses has decreased by 52.5 per cent in North Battleford since 2013.

The city’s director of operations Stewart Schafer said much of this decrease is due to the recycling program which was introduced three years ago.

“In a lot of cases, people are becoming more aware of what they are throwing out,” he said.

North Battleford won an award last year for reducing waste because of the biosolids management program, which converts organic materials into fertilizer. Schafer said the whole city earned that award, not just the administration.
