Province adds to growing list of fire bans

May 11, 2016 | 10:29 AM

Even after recent precipitation, the province is adding to its list of northern fire bans.

The Ministry of Parks, Culture and Sport has issued a restriction on all open fires in Lac La Ronge Provincial Park and Missinipe Recreation Site due to extreme fire hazards.

These fire restrictions are in addition to the bans announced yesterday, May 10, which included Makwa Lake Provincial Park, Meadow Lake Provincial Park, Steele Narrows Provincial Park, Bronson Forest Recreation Site and Chitek Lake Recreation Site.

These restrictions will remain in effect until otherwise notified by the ministry.

All open fires in these locations are prohibited but self-contained portable gas heating devices and fire pits, barbecues, pressurized stoves, and charcoal briquettes will be permitted for cooking and heating purposes.

Conditions in the southern half of the province have improved because of recent precipitation. Fire restrictions at Blackstrap, Buffalo Pound, Danielson, Douglas and Pike Lake Provincial Parks and surrounding recreation sites have now been lifted.
