North Battleford camping fees set to rise

Apr 12, 2016 | 12:51 PM

It’s going to cost more to use North Battleford’s David Laird Campground this year, making rates comparable with its counterpart across the river.

The city leases the campground site from the province, then contracts its operation to the Canadian Mental Health Association. The association keeps the revenue and gets a $10,000 operating subsidy. Facing its own funding challenges and costs that are rising faster than revenues, it had requested a five percent increase in park camping rates.

In studying the matter, the city decided the rates were somewhat lower than the Town of Battleford’s Eiling Kramer Campground and felt there was room to go even further. Council voted unanimously to adopt the recommendation for a seven per cent increase in 2016 and again in 2017, followed by an eight per cent increase in 2018.

A fully-serviced site will rise from $30 to $32 per day this year and climbing again to $38 in 2018. This is still lower than the $40 being charged at the Kramer Campground. Month-long bookings will rise from $630 to $672, and reaching $798 in 2018.
