Seed Potatoes sprout the most interest at trade show

Whether you have a farm or just a little pot on your balcony, anyone can grow pounds of potatoes easily. The Empress Booth was the place everyone was stopping at Saturday April. 9 for the 31st Agrimex trade show.

“We found a family out of Stoney Plain Alberta,” said Stacey Caldwell, who was running the Empress Booth. “The last few years they’ve been trying to find a nice variety of potatoes to market to you and I, the back yard gardener, the patio gardener.”

Seed Potatoes come in a small box with roughly 13 spuds. When planted they can grow up to a pound each in a few months.

“They don’t focus on yield,” Caldwell said. “They’re focusing on flavor and uniqueness. There are potatoes that are good for bakers, others are good for making chips. Each variety has a unique, intrinsic characteristic so everyone will find a potato that they like.”
