SaskParty looking ahead as new caucus meets

The election may be over but the hard work continues for Saskatchewan’s politicians.

The Saskatchewan Party’s new caucus will meet for the first time Wednesday.

The legislative session can’t begin until the election returns are official and that could take a couple of weeks.

Premier Brad Wall will likely use that time to select and announce his new cabinet, prepare for a throne speech and a budget.

All that is expected to happen by the end of May or early June.

The NDP are equally busy but perhaps in a quieter way.

Leader Cam Broten, who lost his seat in Saskatoon Westview, released a statement stating he and the party will be looking at the “best way to move forward”. That work will likely happen this month.

The small caucus of now 10 may have to put the issue of the leadership to one side at least until the summer to focus on scrutinizing the government’s throne speech and budget.
