One man is dead after a shooting took place on Ahtahkakoop First Nation near the health centre this morning.

RCMP responded just before 10 a.m. to reports of shots being fired on the First Nation.

RCMP said this afternoon, a man dressed in camouflage, took off on an ATV after the incident. Police have not confirmed if this man is connected to the incident.

Police are actively searching for a suspect.

No other people have been injured.

People in the community are being advised to stay in their homes until further details are provided by police.

Both the band office and the general store are closed.

Band councillor Russell Ahenakew told battlefordsNOW Staff council has been instructed by the RCMP not to talk to the media at this time.

Most people on the reserve did not want to have their names mentioned but said  this was not a random shooting.

RCMP had no further updates Tuesday afternoon and said the next press release would come at 8:30a.m. Wednesday morning.
