Battleford Town Council ushering in digital age

Mar 23, 2016 | 11:58 AM

Battleford Town Council is now going paperless during their council with the purchase of new tablets for council meetings.

Town chief administrative officer John Enns-Wind said it’s going to be cost-saving measure. “Even with the purchase of tablets, this year we anticipate savings of approximately $4,000. On an annual basis this savings are expected to be around $12,000.”

The town will purchase seven tablets for a total cost of $7,120, including the software and extras like cases and keyboards. Council members will be able to use the tablets until the next term of council, where they will be passed on to the incoming council.

Council meeting notes will be uploaded to a cloud sever and council members will be able to download the notes onto the tablets.

The savings will come from cutting the use of paper and the printer, along with the labour of putting the reports together.

It’s also going to be a time saving measure for the Town.

“Depending on the size of the package, it may take anywhere from three hours to seven hours of just photocopying and collating the information.”

The council hopes to have the tablets for the next council meeting on April 4th, but in speaking with the vendor Enns-Wind says the tablets might not be available at that time.

However, Enns-Wind added the notes for the April 4th meeting will be uploaded to the server for council members.
