Former Roughriders receiver Taj Smith will not go to trial as his charges of aggravated assault have been stayed.

On Thursday at Regina Court of Queen’s Bench, the Crown prosecutor asked the judge for a stay of proceedings in the case. The judge agreed.

The initial assault charges date back to an altercation outside a Dewdney Avenue nightclub in August 2013.

Charges against two other former players, Dwight Anderson and Eron Riley, were dropped early in the proceedings.
